SUCRALOX

Sucralox™ is formulated specifically to support gastric and intestinal health in horses of all ages and uses. Sucralox employs a two-pronged approach to gastric protection.

Firstly, the primary ingredient in Sucralox is sucralfate, a shielding agent that binds to ulcerated areas and safeguards the sensitive lining of the stomach from the damaging effects of gastric acid. In acidic environments like the stomach, sucralfate forms a viscous gel that binds to ulcer craters for more than six hours.

Sucralfate also stimulates the production of prostaglandin and mucus, which adds two more layers of protection. The physical barrier created by sucralfate, aluminum phosphate, and lecithin keeps the gastric mucosa healthy and aids healing. Aluminum phosphate also absorbs bile acids that can reflux and damage the gastric lining.

Secondly, Sucralox contains a fast-acting antacid that helps neutralize gastric acid, further protecting the stomach lining from damage and restoring a normal gastric environment

Product Features

  • Provides continuous protection of the gastric and intestinal mucosa through multiple proven coating agents
  • Contains a yeast metabolite as a postbiotic to support gut morphology, cell health and microbial diversity, resulting in optimal digestive efficiency
  • Easy-to-feed pellet formulation
  • Includes an effective antacid to buffer gastric acid
  • Aids in maintaining a healthy digestive environment for optimal performance and disposition
  • Cost-effective means of reducing the risk of gastric ulceration, especially when used with or after omeprazole

  • Delivers the key electrolytes sodium, chloride, potassium, and magnesium to replace what is lost in sweat
  • Sugar-free formula
  • May reduce the risk of conditions such as dehydration, muscular weakness, overheating, tiredness, and poor performance

RESTORE PASTE

Restore® Paste is a carefully formulated paste electrolyte supplement designed to match the composition of sweat. When horses sweat they lose electrolytes, with the principal losses being chloride, sodium, potassium, and magnesium. If these essential nutrients are not replenished, the consequences may include dehydration, muscular weakness, overheating, fatigue, and poor performance. The composition of Restore Paste mimics that of horse sweat so it replaces what has been lost from sweat.

Product Features

  • Easy-to-administer oral paste.
  • Supplies sodium, chloride, potassium, and magnesium to hard-working horses.
  • Non-irritating, buffered formula for oral and gastrointestinal comfort.
  • For routine or strategic electrolyte replacement for all horses that sweat.
  • Stimulates thirst response and encourages horses to drink.

Endura- Max

Kentucky Equine Research developed Endura-Max specifically for endurance horses to replace essential electrolytes lost in sweat. Endura-Max provides the three key electrolytes in the exact ratio in which they are actually lost in sweat. Sweat contains approximately twice as much sodium as potassium and about twice as much chloride as sodium, creating a ratio of 1:2:4—potassium:sodium:chloride. In addition to these electrolytes, Endura-Max also contains calcium and magnesium, included in the formula to assist in cellular integrity and optimal nerve and muscle function.

One unavoidable side effect of hard work is the production and secretion of sweat. Designed to help cool the horse during strenuous exercise, sweating can result in a substantial loss of essential minerals from the body. These minerals, called electrolytes, are vital to normal physiology.

Horses that perform low-intensity, long-duration exercise are at particular risk for electrolyte depletion as sweating may occur for long periods of time. Those that perform this type of exercise often, especially in hot, humid conditions, will typically lose more electrolytes than their normal rations supply. Without appropriate electrolyte supplementation, physiological problems may occur during training rides and competition. Severe electrolyte depletion may result in impaired muscle and nerve function, which in turn can lead to poor performance.

When endurance horses sweat, they lose significant amounts of the three most important electrolytes: sodium, chloride, and potassium. On longer rides, levels of calcium and magnesium may also drop.

ENDURA-MAX PASTE

ENDURA-MAX Paste is specifically designed to support the unique nutritional requirements of horses training and competing over long distances.

It contains essential added calcium and magnesium combined with the protective properties of a buffering agent to gently coat the stomach lining and buffer gastric acid in an easy-to-administer paste.

Product Features

  • Balanced formula to replace electrolytes, plus calcium and magnesium lost as a result of excessive sweating.
  • Can be used strategically as a supplement prior to, during and after long-distance work.
  • Assists in stimulation of thirst response and rehydration of hard-working horses.
  • Buffered formula can be used as an alternative to conventional powdered electrolytes for horses prone to gastric ulceration.

EO-3

Horses are often fed diets composed entirely of grain mixes and hay. Such diets are rich in omega-6 fatty acids but extremely low in omega-3 fatty acids. If vegetable oil is added to the ration, it further skews the ratio, with omega-6 fatty acids being overrepresented. To help counteract this imbalance, horses should be supplemented with omega-3 fatty acids, the richest sources of which are fish oils.

Kentucky Equine Research developed EO-3™, a potent marine-derived oil that is rich in omega-3 fatty acids. EO-3 is a palatable oil that is top-dressed onto the feed. EO-3 contains the omega-3 fatty acids DHA and EPA. KER has shown EO-3 to be highly palatable when compared to other marine-derived oils.

EO-3 is intended to be fed to horses of all classes and working levels to improve the critical omega-3:omega-6 ratio in their diets.

Product Features

  • Highly palatable flavored marine-derived oil
  • Strengthens immune function
  • Benefits of DHA- and EPA-mediated inflammatory response include reduction in joint inflammation, allergic reactivity, exercise-induced bronchoconstriction, and exercise-induced pulmonary hemorrhage
  • Marine-derived long-chain fatty acids DHA and EPA are more efficiently used as precursors of local hormones than plant-based sources of omega-3 fatty acids
  • Provides an anti-inflammatory effect in horses with Equine Glandular Gastric Disease (EGGD) and Recurrent Exertional Rhabdomyolysis (RER), as inflammation is a key part of the disease process
  • Improves glucose tolerance
  • Increases red blood cell flexibility
  • Reproductive benefits include improved fertility, improved colostrum quality, enhanced passive transfer of antibodies to foals, and increased sperm concentration, motility, and viability
  • ACVIM consensus statement recommends DHA and EPA supplementation for horses with inflammatory airway disease/equine asthma
  • Shown in studies to reduce GGT and inflammatory markers in exercising horses

SYNOVATE HA

Synovate HA® delivers high molecular weight sodium hyaluronate for horses in an easy-to-administer liquid. Maintaining proper joint health is an important factor in the longevity of a horse’s career. The nutrient-rich synovial fluid is a vital component that fills the joint capsule to aid in smooth passage of one bone over another and to absorb shock from high-impact work.

Researchers have identified differences in biological activities for HA of different molecular weights. HA with a high molecular weight (more than 500,000 daltons) has the greatest biological response. Further, high molecular weight HA created from microbial fermentation, such as Synovate HA, has the greatest likelihood for matching the known attributes of native HA found in the horse’s body.

Re-Leve

RE-LEVE maintains its energy density by relying on fat and fermentable fibers rather than starch sources for the majority of its calories. Alternative energy sources such as high-fat stabilized rice bran along with super fibers beet pulp and soybean hulls provide highly digestible and readily available energy.

Feeding Considerations

  • Recommended levels of selenium and vitamin E are usually met by grazing, hay consumption, and minimum levels of RE-LEVE. Supplementation of selenium and vitamin E over this level is not generally helpful, with the exception of draft horses that may benefit from elevated levels of vitamin E.
  • Electrolytes (sodium, chloride, potassium, calcium, magnesium) are quickly depleted as a horse exercises, particularly in hot and humid conditions. Use of an electrolyte can help to prevent some episodes of tying-up.
  • Chromium supplementation at the rate of 5 mg per day has proven helpful, especially to nervous horses, possibly by assisting in glucose and glycogen metabolism. Conversely, because of its influence on insulin activity, the use of chromium may be counterproductive in horses with PSSM.
  • RE-LEVE, a concentrate with decreased starch and high levels of fat and fermentable fiber, is helpful to Thoroughbreds with chronic RER as well as Quarter Horses and warm bloods with PSSM.
